What to Expect When Visiting a Dentist in Kennett Square for a Teeth Cleaning

Dentist In Kennett SquareAs a dentist in Kennett Square, one of the things you will hear from us on your visit is a reminder that you need to come in on a regular basis. When you come in on a regular basis, we are able to do far more for your teeth, especially when it comes to preventing conditions rather than just treating  conditions after they occur. One of the things that American dentists have learned is that prevention is far easier than curing a condition after the fact. It is also typically far more cost-effective for the patient. As a result, we work very hard to ensure that you understand the importance of maintaining your teeth, having a great oral health routine, and ensuring that your teeth stay healthy for the longest period of time possible. So, you might ask, what exactly does this biannual examination entail?

Dentist in Kennett Square: What Happens at Your Visit

When you come to our office for a biannual examination, your visit allows us to offer you a professional cleaning as part of the routine checkup. The professional cleaning is one of the most important steps you can take to keep your teeth in optimal condition. We will clean your teeth to remove tartar and plaque that may have built up since your last dental visit. While you can remove the majority of tartar or plaque with your toothbrush, some of it hardens or is too close to the gum line for your toothbrush to properly remove it. If this remains and is not removed, it can lead to gum diseases such as gingivitis or periodontal disease. In order to avoid this, one of the things we do for all our patients is to make sure we professionally clean their teeth before they leave the clinic.

Whether you are in our office for a biannual checkup or just coming in with some questions about some problems that may be occurring, we will be looking for the early signs of diseases. Every disease, especially those in the mouth, will give us some kind of sign that they could be forming. We will be looking for softness in the teeth that may lead to cavities and for issues with the gums that may lead to gum disease. We will also be searching for signs of oral cancer in our routine checkup. As we mentioned earlier, we know that prevention is the less painful process than treating advanced dental disease. If we can catch occurrences of diseases before they become serious, we can work on a preventative measure — or an early cure — that will help you get over this condition before it becomes serious.
